BMW M Performance antenna cover

The antenna cover made of aramid fiber-reinforced plastic is a visual and functional highlight on the vehicle roof. Due to the extreme visual similarity between aramid fiber and carbon fiber, this product completes the "carbon" look of vehicles with a carbon package or other carbon exterior components. Since aramid has a high permeability to electromagnetic waves, the functionality of the antenna is maintained. Carbon, on the other hand, has a shielding effect and cannot be used for antenna covers.

• At BMW, the term "aramid" refers to the aramid fiber-reinforced plastic used in special exterior accessories, similar to the term "carbon" for carbon fiber-reinforced plastic.
• Aramid is a high-quality fiber composite material that closely resembles carbon fiber in appearance and processing. Unlike carbon, components made from it exhibit high electromagnetic permeability.
• Aramid has a lower density than carbon and is therefore slightly lighter than carbon.
• To date, aramid fibers have been used primarily in rallying (underbody protection) or sailing (carbon-aramid hybrid sails) or in ballistic protection for bulletproof vests or armored vehicles.
